Hornbach DIY and garden centre in Nuremburg

Object description

For HORNBACH Baumarkt AG, BREMER Stuttgart GmbH delivered a forward-looking DIY and garden centre development in Nuremberg.

The project was built on a site covering approximately 32,000 square metres and provides around 13,000 square metres of retail space. The building is equipped with an air-source heat pump that supplies both heating and cooling. A large-scale photovoltaic system installed on the roof generates around 50 per cent of the site's electricity demand, while approximately 10,000 square metres of roof area have been designed as extensive green roofing. All rainwater generated on site is fully infiltrated through a soakaway drainage system.

A key feature of the development is its sustainable concept, supported by state-of-the-art building services engineering and energy-efficient building systems. In addition, 60 new trees were planted across the site, and the façade was enhanced with vertical greenery.

The new development was completed in just 14 months, including the demolition of the existing store. The innovative design, featuring a main entrance positioned at the gable end of the building and a drive-in area for building materials, distinguishes it from other HORNBACH stores. The successful delivery of the project was made possible through the combined turnkey expertise of BREMER Stuttgart GmbH and the dedicated support of its subcontracting partners.
